Vernal Equinox 2010: First Day of Spring

The Spring Equinox 2010 falls on Saturday, March 20 at 1:32 pm EST. This time also indicates the first day of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

Spring Equinox is also known as March Equinox or Vernal Equinox, which means equal night. This occurs twice a year or every six months (March and September) on Earth.  This time the length of the day and night in all parts of the world are nearly equal, which results when the sun shines directly to the equator.

There were many traditions before that folks observe during the Vernal Equinox. There are some places in the world that still celebrate this time with religious rites and festivals like Mexico. But as time passes by, these practices gradually vanish.
